August 15 - Back Yard Stuff (Deep Creek)
Off and on over the past several weeks I would take a walk around the yard and nearby area to see what I can photograph.  Following are some images taken during the past several weeks.  The highlight of the past week was the passage of a Bobcat next to our lanai.  I got my camera and followed him for several hundred feet, staying a good distance away and managing to capture several good images.

Another highlight for me was finally identifying a catepillar and a wasp-like insect I've photographed several times over the past several months and could not identify them.  The catapillar turned out to be the Oleander Caterpillar, which is the larva of the Polka-dot Wasp Moth, both of which are included in the following images.  Several Roseate Dragonflies were around for a few days and then disappeared.  The Black Racer pictured below lives near the house as I usually see it several times a week.  One day I noticed a pair of Twostriped Walkingsticks mating on the screen of the lanai.

As to birds, I usually have Scrub Jays visit the yard several times a week.  I see Black-bellied Whistling Ducks every day flying over the yard, sometimes landing around the lake in back.  An Anhinga has been using one of the Cypress trees adjacent to my yard to roost in every night.  Sandhill Cranes usually drop by once or twice a week.  One morning I walked out and their were a dozen Wood Storks in a tree about 50 feet from our front door.  One never knows what one will see around here.

Following are a few images taken around the yard.  (For a larger view, double click on the desired image.)
