Milkweed Butterflies - subfamily Danainae

Milkweed butterflies or Monarchs are found throughout the tropical world.  Many species of this group are distasteful to predators because of the accumulation of toxic chemicals derived from the caterpillar food plants.  Three species of this subfamily are found in Florida: Monarch, Queen, and Soldier.

Monarch - Danaus plexippus

Queen - Danaus gilippus

Soldier - Danaus eresimus
