Rabbits |
| Rabbits are furry mammals with long ears and short
fluffy tails. They have long legs for hopping. They live in
a wide range of habitats, from forests and swamps to dry brush country
and suburban areas. There are two species of rabbits commonly
found in Florida, the Eastern Cottontail Rabbit and the Marsh Rabbit.
The Eastern Cottontail is found throughout most of Florida.
Its color is grayish brown with a white underside. A distinguishing
characteristic is its fluffy white tail. It ranges in length from 12-20
inches. The Cottontail is a prolific breeder with the average female
having 5-6 litters per year. Each litter may have 1-8 young. The
nest is a fur- and grass-lined depression in dense clumps of grass. |
