Penisula Ribbon Snake - Thamnophis sauritus sackeni

This species is a thin, long-tailed snake that closely resembles the Garter Snake.  It reaches a maximum  length of 40 nches.  It usually has three light stripes, but the stripe down the center of the back may be faint or sometimes missing. The stripes are yellow to tan in color.  The body is dark brown to tan in color.  The belly is yellowish white to tan.  The head is small with a white spot in front of the eye.

This snake is common in marshes, wet prairies and similar aquatic habitat.  it feeds on insects, small fish and tree frogs.  It is common throughout Florida.
