September 24:  Ollie's Pond Park

I went to Ollie’s Pond in Port Charlotte this morning with the hopes of seeing some migrants.  Unfortunately, twas not the case.  The only migrants seen were two Blue-gray Gnatcatchers.  The only other birds seen were year-round residents including Cardinals, Blue Jays, Mourning Doves, Boat-tailed Grackles, Northern Mockingbirds, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, one Great Egret and one Anhinga.  The pond level was about a foot below its normal level.  There is much more vegetation growing in the water then before; the north end is almost completely marsh now.

I stopped at the Port Charlotte Beach Complex on the way home.  There is quite a bit of construction going on.  The road to the boat ramp is blocked.  The tennis court fences have been removed and heavy machinery is sitting on the tennis courts.  The tide was incoming and fairly high.  The only birds seen on the beach were two-dozen Laughing Gulls, two Rock Doves, and two Ruddy Turnstones.

Continuing home along Bayshore Drive, I stopped at the fishing pier and found one Snowy Egret and one Yellow-crowned Night-Heron.  Bayshore Park is still fenced off and closed with continuing construction.

Following are a few images taken during the trip.  (For a larger view, double click on the desired image.)
