Loggerhead Shrike

There are two species of Shrikes found in North America, the Northern Shrike and the Loggerhead Shrike.  Only the Loggerhead Shrike is found in Florida, where it is a year-round resident.  Shrikes are predatory songbirds with strong, hooked bills.  They are solitary birds that are usually found in open, brushy fields, along hedgerows, or the edges of woods.  They feed on insects, rodents, snakes, and small birds.
