| All woodpeckers have stout chisel-like bills that are used to
peel bark and excavate wood to uncover insects. They have stiff tails that
are used as props while the birds cling to the tree with their sharp
claws. There are nine species of woodpeckers found in Florida, six of
which are common and three not so common. |
